Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default First bird with my new Mossberg

Well I got out today for the first time with my new Mossberg 935 Autoloader ,all I can say is this gun handle's great with the heavy 3" shell's .I must say I'm not really impressed with the Remington Duplex 4X6's.I was just about to leave when I was coming out of the bush just to see 3 bird's jumping and running around about 300yrds across a field from me ,so after watching them for a few minute's ,I watched them jump up on a cedar rail fence 1 at a time and disappear into another field .I started calling with my slate call and low and behold if 1 of the bird's jump's back onto the fence and back into the field on my side .He walk's directly toward's me ,so I crawl up behind a pine tree and wait for him to come into range ,he walk's through a thick area and pop's out about 25 yrds from my hen decoy he walked up to the fence beside thetrail that my hen was standing on and I figured I had to take him right now or he was going top disappear on me ,so I shot this bird at about 40yrds ,but he didn't drop on the spot.He flew clear across the field from me ,I couldn't believe it this bird should have dropped right on the spot .I walked across the field to where I last seen the bird about 400yrds from where he was shot and there he was laying just inside the bush line .It would have been very easy to lose this bird because most would have just figured they missed this bird and would have left .But I couldn't believe that I missed clean ,so I decided to follow up on him ,and it's a good thing that I did ,or this bird would have been coyote bait .It definately pay's to make sure your shot was a miss ,I just can't believe this bird went that far after being shot .He's just a Jake ,but he'll be great out of the deep fryer this spring .This bird also had 3 beard's .

Never mind the dates on these pic's ,I just haven't reset the date on it yet .I'll do it for my Bow bird next and he'll be a good one .I promise you's that.

Hey nothing wrong with an "atypical jake"!

Kudos to you for having the fortitude to check out your shot. Even some experienced folks may have considered it a clean miss. Good job!
