Default Anybody find some morels?

I know this don't have anything to do with turkeys, but I was wonderin if anybody has found any morels?
I have been lookin, and have only seen them 2 or 3 times in the wild.
Where do they like to grow?
In hollows like ginseng?
Round certain tree, like poplar, oak ,or pine?

Haven't found any yet. To check on sightings go to morelmania.com and look for your state under sightings. They also have photos etc. In my considerable experience I find them near dead elms and ash trees also in recently burned over areas

I went out last night and looked for about an hour. I found quite a few morels (probably around a lb), but they were the small grey ones, which still taste great. Morels here in Wisconsin grow typically under dead elm trees. Elm trees where the bark is falling off. When it is early like this, search the south hill sides first. Later in the morel season, they will likely grow on all hill sides.

Morel season? What's the daily bag limit? What's the deal with these morels? Are they that good? I've never heard of them until I got on this forum. Do they grow exclusively up north? I love mushrooms, but I've never eaten a morel. Do they grow down south? I know we have a bunch of mushrooms down here but I'm not going to eat them. I am likely to pick the wrong kind and kill myself.

Superstrutter buddy you have been cheating yourself if you have never tasted one. They are by far one of the best mushies around. My friend has them all over his property and doesn't even go looking for them. He says he finds enough of them while mowing his yard around his house. I didn't beleive him till he opened his refridgerator. 3 huge ziploc bags full of them just from one time of mowing. I am goin up there this weekend to get me some.

This will get you going in the right direction:
Morels
If you can't find them where you live then you could always grow your own:
Grow your own kits

superstrutter, these things are like gold. They sell for $$ BIG
MONEY $$ is some areas. I would recommend doing some research to see if they're in your area. If so, pick as many as you can. Eat them until you are sick of them, then sell the rest. I know some people who basically run a 3 month business and make 50k each year. Check this out...

No finer mushroom you can find. They grow only in the spring and are found everywhere. If you can only hunt until 1pm like here in Illinois then the afternoon is spent hunting morels !

I found 200 in a 20 sq. ft area the other day. I would send you some, but.....well....they were really good w/ crappie fillets and Budweiser.
