What do you guys do when the birds aren't gobbling from the roost and don't make a sound after fly down? What about if they are gobbling on the roost but nothing once on the ground? thanks
Learn and find their strut zones, feed sources etc...if they are not talking, you have to find them. Learning what they do day to day and getting set up where they might come....what else can you do?
If that's happening, they're probably with hens. You could probably find out which way they go and be there ahead of them. The other thing that comes to mind is to come back to the area late AM or early PM. If the hens are leaving to go set on a nest, the toms will start looking for company
Rob's got it right....first and foremost ya gotta scout prior to season....that way when this happens you have a good idea where to ambush them....if not...you can chase all over the hillsides looking for them...other than that.....sit and be VERY patient...calling occasionally and ever watchful for movement...if they got lockjaw, then your game is to wait them out till they come looking for you...
I did scout alot. However when I went in yesterday my area where I had the bird pegged someone went in an orange flagged this whole area. I had multiple people walk past my setup yesterday morning. Its gonna be real hard because these turkeys are being bumped so much. I also had a turkey roosting on a ridge that I had found. I thought he will be kinda hard to find Ill use him as a backup. Well there was 4 vehicles parked on near that ridge. I know that there is only one turkey in that area and atleast 4 people to hunt a ridge thats maybe 400 yards long.
