Default I have a few questions?

When you roost a bird, how dark should it be when you use the owl call? Well there is 5 jakes and like 2 gobblers behind my house and i was wondering if a jake was to come in opening morning if i should take it or wait for a gobbler another day.I was just wondering what it would do to the flock and things like that. Plus how fast does a turkeys beard usally grow?

That depends on a few things... How experienced are you, Have the birds been hunted or have they faced any hunting pressure, and how often do you see the birds?

Also, what is the season length and how many birds are you allowed in your area?

Well, If the law allows, I see nothing wrong with shooting a jake, especially if it'syour first turkey.
I guess, after you killed a few, killing a jake doesn't give you quite the kick it used to.
It least not to me any way.
Anyway,Go for it!!
Our team needs every point it can get! lol

Turkeys a turkeys a turkey.

Of course, I haven't killed that many...so if a bird is in range, he's usually toast. My first and biggest birds was a tom. The next 3 have been jakes. Still had a blast. Still got the meat. Still made memories.

How dark when roosting a bird
1/ the last 1/2 hour of dull light

should you pass on a jake

2/ that is up to the shooter

what it would do to the flock

3/ it will make the birds nervous and will teach them what hunting is

How fast dose a beard grow

4/ The first year Jakes can range from 3 in to 6 in depending on when that birds hatch was the year before. 2 year olds can run from 6 in to 9 or more depending on the same as the hatch early or late. Beard length can also change in the second year also depending on the terrian and soal of the area it lives...BT

Be careful if you are hunting and you see two turkeys, don't shootthe 1st one because I have been told that an old tom will let a jake come into an area first and once the tom thinks the area is safe because the jake is safe, the tom will then make his way towards the jake. idk if this is true but it makes sense and the same is true for deer hunting, so just be patient and the 2nd bird could be a tom.
