Default Aiming Point

Where do you aim/hold when shooting a bird? I always aim just a tad below the middle of the head so I can get a few into the neck also.

I aim at the base of the neck. Most BB's I've ever found anywhere below the head and neck were two in the breasts.

Aim at the waddles, where the skin meets feathers. If you aim at the head then half of your shot passes harmlessly over the turkey.

Have to agree, at the waddles where the neck (skin) meets the feathers. And I too have only found like two in other parts.[8D]

Now I have a question, does anybodyshoot the body? Heard some old timers, and it seems it would bring them down quicker. And then you look at it and say waste the meat. But does everyone eat all the meat or mostly go for the beard and spurs? Not saying anyone doesnt, just thinking if the old timers did it and sure they cooked em up good in the skillet! [8D]

i wouldnt reccomend shooting the body...although it is up to you how u bag ur turkey...if u pattern your shotgun and are consistent a shot to the neck or head will bring them down just as quick if not quicker because the bb's will be entering the neck shattering the neck bone aka spine... maybe these old timers couldnt see the sights on the heads or necks anylonger so they just aimed for what they could see...( NO OFFENSE TO OLD TIMERS JUST AN IDEA), do it however u want to its up to u... GOOD LUCK!

i aim right below the head...even a tad lower...guess that would be the waddle region.....id never take a body shot with a shotgun....ive found tons of pellets in small game that didnt make it far....they loose the little energy they carry pretty quick.....im not saying that it cant be done.....but why not tear up its brain...vertebrae..spine..arteries...wind pipe ect......everyone judges pellet count by brain and spine only.....thats like a "turkey shoot" seeing hows pellet is closest to the mark.....to me i rather have a nice dense pattern then worry about OMG i only got 4 in the brain and spine.....you got a good dense pattern shooting POA and youll have turkey dinner...that birds going down with a head and neck hit.....and your going to get pellets in the brain and spine...right now i put about 190 pellets on a 10x10 sheet of paper are 30 or 35yds....draw a turkey brain and spine anywhere in there and thats a dead bird......some guys get too obsessed with patterns and counts....but i know my pattern shoots pretty danged centered so i am to have my pattern hit above(head) and below(neck).....if my pattern shot high id aim lower..if it shot low id am higher...

I have taken all mine by shooting the neck too. Just thinking outloud. However, I am thinking that the area of neck, with lack of feathers would be a lot easier to penetrate to kill zone then through all the feathers to the little heart and vitals there. Believe me, I will am at the neck too, just wondering if anyone did, heard there were a few who still did, and in watching some of the DVDs out from companies, I would swear that they shoot some that way from the way feathers fly or the impact.
