Sure it's o.k. I usually use one jake decoy. If you have a jake decoy set it up faceing you, and if a hen decoy face it away from you. Gobblers will approach jakes from the front, and circle around to the back side of hens. If the decoy is in the way and no other shot is going to come up, shoot the decoy also.

it's fine to only have one hen, it's all personal preference. what do you mean about if the bird gets behind a decoy??? do you mean to try and shoot or what??? i personally wouldn't have a problem putting some pellets through my decoys to get a bird but thats just me.

I'm going to respectfully disagreeabout using a single hen due to my experience and what others more experienced than I have said at this website and other sites regarding my problem.

I got tired of carrying stuff around after my first couple of years huntingso I started using a single hen decoy. Three times in 2 seasons I had a tom come in, gobble, then immediately turn and run. The first two times I thought maybe it was my silhouette orthat I moved, etc. The last time I absolutely know the gobbler never saw menor did I move.I now believe that all those times the gobbler knew something waswrong with the loan hen didn't even twitch at his gobble. I posted my experience and the concensus I got was multiple decoys or no decoys.

So, by my count the loan hen cost me 3 toms. I won't make that mistake a 4th time.

ThI carry four decoys at all times, three flambeau and one featherflite or whatever they are called, if I have the time, all four go up, two facing away and one facing left and one right.

Seems to work
