Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default 835 Grand Slam w/ factory ported choke

Hi All,

I picked up a Mossy Grand Slam 20" barrel with the factory portedturkey choke last year. Now that this gun has been out for awhile I'm curious to see what others are shooting with the stock choke. I've triedthe 3" winchester HVand federal flight control 4's and 5's and haven't found a good pattern at 40 yards (ie holes in it - less than 10 pellets in the neck/head). I'd rathernotspend the$$ on a new choke since it really may not be any better. I realize every gunis different but I'd be curious to hear what people are gettingto pattern well with thischoke in particular- thatmay give me some ideason what shells to try this year. I haven't tried any 3.5" shells, which I may donow that I'mputtinga sims recoil pad on the gun. Itkicks like a mulewith 3" so I've been hesitant to try the 3.5"!! Appreciate your comments. thanks

I shoot the hevi 13 #6's out my 835 with the factory nonported choke and 17-21 pellets in the brain and spine of a primos turkey target at 40 yards. the win xtended also shoots good out of the factory choke with about 15-18 in the brain and spine at 40 yards. This is with hevi 13 #6's 1 3/4 oz. 3 1/2'' and win xtend 3 1/2''

All I can say bout that is Sims Limbsaver I will never again own nor shoot another Turkey gun without one of these bad boys! They areAwesome !! I have them on both my 835 and 870 and I shoot 3 1/2" #5 HV and is not much worse than shooting trap loads

To bad about that mossberg... Maybe mossberg can tell you what shells they shoot...

My Remington will shoot just about any turkey load good enough to kill a turkey at 40... But Win shoot the best

I don't shoot the factory choke but Winchester 2oz #5's in 3" shoot the best from my 835....
