I guess if it were true that the population would take a pretty good beatin' each year.

I am pretty sure its just a ole wise saying.

Well few years back, I sat in a pouring rain for opening day. When turkeys did pass their heads were almost near the ground and they were all scrunched over..... couldn't tell if tom or hen, so I would say MYTH![8D]

A farmer told me that it can happen with domestic chicks. The wild birds are smarter than that.

Dan, some people say that turkeys look up with their mouths openwhen it's raining and they drown!

Ohhh. Hadn't heard that one before. Old high school ag teacher came out to my property about 4 years ago to go turkey hunting, it was pouring rain and I told him to have fun, because I was not going out there to get my new shotgun soaked, especially when there were not going to be any turkeys out in the rain. 3 hours later he came back with a tom w/10" beard. Said it was in one of our vineyards, gave it a couple yelps, and he came running.

Long story short, the turkey survived the pouring rain without drownding (and I got an A in the class. lol).

Thanks for the clarification RH.
