You might want to try your local outdoor shows... some of them have amiture turkey calling contest... Or maybe take a trip to TN when they have the nationals

I'm also good at calling turkeys, but that doesn't even compare to contest calling. If you've never been to a professional contest as a spectator, I would recommend it before you sign up for the contest. It will most likely be a humbling experience.
WM
The truth about MOST beginning contest callers: They are hunters who have killed many turkeys and have decent or even good turkey sound, but almost no sense of turkey cadence, pitch, or rythm.
If you watch the best compititon callers, they are not mouth callers, they are hen turkeys.PERIOD. Even many good callers, who have won many contests, if you close your eyes and listen to them call, you hear mouth call and not hen turkey.
A good caller will have incredible control of the call in his mouth. I got a great shot of ChrisParrish on video this past weekend doing his cutting sequence, and it is effortless. Sharp, loud, cutts with no effort. Good contest callers have great air/tongue pressure control.
The first thing to remember about contest calling is that it is up to HUMAN judges. I have beaten callers I should have never beaten and lost to callers who sounded like a goose. If you start calling you will as well. I love contest calling becuase Im competitive and because it takes up the boring time between deer and turkey season.
Anyhow, the only thing that stands between you and getting on stage is an NWTF membership and paying the entry fee. I would recommend watching a contest before you enter one. Maybe even film it. Thats what I did. Contest calling is great Good luck! Get back at me if you want some more info. What state are you in???

Well then one of the most succesful callers in history is from your state, Don Shipp. He has won multiple world championships. He has a different sound than many of the callers who score well in Nashville although he is one of the best on any stage. Joe Sensabaugh and I have become friends over the past year, he is another good caller from Hattieville I believe. Do yourself a favor and go watch these guys call and talk to Joe, he will help you out, and he makes calls. Good luck. There are alot of great callers from out in the midwest, you should have no trouble finding a good contest to attend.
thanks, i will definately go to some compititions..im plannin on goin all the way to bein a H.S. strut pro staff member. And i know if i put my mind to it, i can do it.

I noticed that you were born in 87 so youll be 20 next January. That make you eligible to call in the Intermediate Division (ages 16-20) at the Grand Nationals. My advice would be to hurry and get your butt to some contests and film them, and if you feel like competing then go for it. The more stage time the better. Anyhow, if you think your good then you ought to call in Nashville next February. You ought to be able to get your feet wet between now and then. You'd really make a name for yourself if you called well and won or even placed in Nashville next February. Good luck, PM me if you want more help.
