Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default what range is best?

I was wondering what was the ideal range to take a turkey at with a superfull choke and a 12 gauge3in mag 2oz load.

I don't know that there is a best range, but for conventional copper plated lead shot I've heard the rule of thumb is 40 yards maximum for shot size 4 or 5, and 35 yard max for size 6 shot. Now, let me say that I wouldn't recommend you shoot at those ranges without first patterning your gun and ensuring that your set-up can put a significant number of pellets in the kill zone at those ranges. Personally, I like to get a turkey within 20 yards to take him. I usually put my decoys between 15 and 20 yards to try to bring him into that range. I have no experience with heavy shot, and the folks that do may indicate that the effective range for that is somewhat longer.

20 to30 yards.Of course you can kill them beyond that though. Inormally won't shoot past 50 yards. When using decoys I set them up about 20 to 25 yards out, so my shot will be around 20 to 30 yards. At this distance there should be no doubt.

I think the ideal range would be 20-25 yards... Nice dense pattern and still have a little room for error

With a shotgun I would like for them to be between 25 and 30 yards because at 30 yards my pattern has opened up enough that if the bird moves his head a little I shouldn't miss. Ideally I would like them to be at 15 yards with my bow in my hand.
