Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default What is missing from this picture?

Well, I was patterning my gun today...sun shining and warmer than I thought it would be.
Was about to get a real good pattern out of the last three choke/shell combos when................

As, you can see, the trigger guard disintegrated, and I could only find one small peice. The cause you ask? My guess is, since I was shooting it out of a rest on a cold day (note cold=brittle) that the trigger guard contacted the rear part of the rest (3.5" Win HV's) and shattered the thing.
Guess Ill have to send it back to Mossberg for a replacement...Hope it gets here in time for the season..I was just getting good patterns too[&:]
Anyway...when you all pattern your guns, do you use a rest, and if so do you butt the back of the trigger guard against the rear rest (I am guessing I will hear a resounding no to the latter part of that question)
Cheers all..
Dont make this mistake!

Perhaps a crack on it from possibly a fall or something?

I don't use any kind of rest other than sandbags anymore. I made two big sandbags out of levi pants legs.

Dang It Campo.I thought I had bad luck! Those 3.5" shells hit hard!It could have easily done that if it hit something hard during the recoil.I have a shooting rest that tightens up around the fore-end,and the stock.

Was that Star-dot,and win HV #4 combodoing as good as I was telling you about?

I bought a Mossberg 835 last year and love it --I assume that's what you were shooting since it's in your list at the end of your posts.

I've had no problems in the year I've had mine, but a friend at work just had the side of the barrel blow up on his Mossberg 500. His thumb had to be reattached at the hospital.

I hope Mossberg isn't using cheap materials to cut their costs.

Like Ifly, use sandbags, but mostly like Mr. Longbeard sitting on the ground, knee up for support and then take aim[8D]
