[&o]Been using winchester HV Supreme #4 I've heard a lot of talk about Remington Hevi Shot is it worth the 24.99 a box.

Without a doubt it's worth it. I actually use hand loaded hevi-shot by Nitro Company. They use a special buffer to help protect your barrel and load 4x5x7 shot. It throws a pattern that can't be matched. Be sure you are using a choke tube approved for hevi-shot. Rhino, Mad Supermax, Undertaker, Primos, just to name a few.

It's worth it. I use the Rem. hevi-shot 3.5 5's with an undertaker choke. A lot cheaper than the nitros. I shoot them in an 870 super mag. I patterned some in last weekend and they did great. I've been using them for three years now. I really can't compare them to the HV supremes because I have never tried them, but I can tell you the hevi shot is worth trying.

Personally, I am going to try the Winchester X-tended range. From what i have been reading this year, they are as close to the Nitro patterns as you can get.

Oh yeah. I tried the Remington Hevi-shot and was disapointed with it. The Winchester XX 2oz #6's out patterned them at every range. I did kill a bird with the Hevi-shot last year. It was alright, nothing special. I had to shoot him again b/c the first shot didn't kill him and he was only 30yards.

I usually use 3.5in Winchester Supreme #6 shot as well. It's killed every turkey I shot at so far. I am curious about the Hevi-Shot though. I patterned a 3.5in #4 Hevi-Shot out of my 870 last week but it was with Modified Choke, just to see what it would do. 26 pellets in the kill zone (head and neck) at 25 yards. The Winchesters seem to have a more even spread though (of course comparing #4 shot to #6 shot). I read on another forum that you want to go one choke size wider with Hevi-Shot is that true? By the way, that 3.5 inch Hevi-Shot kicks like a !@#$%. I've been shooting 3.5in Kent Faststeel all winter at ducks and nothing could've prepared me for how hard that Hevi-Shot shell kicked.

Maybe you just didn't shoot straight. Just kidding. It's funny how some loads pattern fine for some and not for others, the same load that is. Hevi shot works great for me but I still like experimenting. If you haven't tried it I still believe it's worth trying. It's a great load.

You are right posted, the 3.5 hevi shot does kick like a horse. You don't notice it while you are shooting at a turkey but when you are patterning it in it will kick your butt. Shoot about 4 or 5 times and your shoulder will tell you no more please.

I have to agree with Widow Maker..... the ammo from Nitro Ammunition Company is simply incredible. It's not cheap but it will do what the say it will.... here is theaddress if you want to look around

Is this Nitro similar to Hevi-Shot? Also, do you use full choke with Hevi-Shot or Nitro?
