This is a spin off from a top about the new Federal Heavy Weight loads. The topic was about the Federal Load # 7's.
Heres a response from someone:
"I never heard of #7's for turkey. In this state nothing bugger then #4 nothing less then #6"
Alright, my response is that these new "heavy'' loads are heavier than lead, which means you can use smaller shot to get as much if not more energy than a given sized lead pellet.
So, i was thinking. How do ya'll feel about the "heavy" loads conflicting with the these laws? Should the laws stay or should they be "updated"?

This just got me thinking?

Yes I agree, with the advent of hevishot on the market now, I think they should "re-think" those pellet size restrictions.
Strutbps and Paul I absolutely agree,IMHO theres a safety issue here too.Not neccessarily for the smaller shot size but heavi-shot 4's is some highly lethal stuff at some extended ranges...

I have 3 turkey guns and have patterned every load known to man threw these gunsand they all shoot #5's great... (Win HV's, Rem Hevi Shot, Win Extended Range, Fed HW Wad Lock) Why would I want to use #7's
With #5's I still have a load that is capable of a 50 yard shot if I miss judge...
Can you say the same with heavi weight #7's???

This post is not to compare shot sizes or compare the Federal Heavy Weight #7's. It is to get everyone's opinion on the newer "heavy" loads of all brand names VS the laws that prohibits the use of smaller lead shot.
With these "heavy" loads, a size 7 can have just as much, if not more energy than a size 6. So, should it still be illegal?
