Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Wingbone yelper

I wanted to make a wingbone yelper for my father for his birthday. However, in SC we can't hunt hens. I know I can make a yelper using jake or gobbler bones, but is there anyway that I can get my hands on some hen bones? I'm pretty sure there is probably some federal law against it, but I just thought I would ask anyway.

I'm aware of no laws against possesing legally taken game parts. what you need, is to advertise before fall season, that way you have a greater chance at scoring wings. Jakes will do, but older hens' bones do better... my mentor soley used a wingbone.... takes a LOT of practice to master all the calls..much harder than a mouth call...but boy are they sweet sounding !!!
Good Luck with your project!!

Personally, I prefer jake bones for yelpers. They are more robust, not as fragile, but the tone isn't enough lower than a hen bone yelper to notice. I've gotten my best results from jake yelpers.

Go to your grocer's freezer and pick up a butterball hen...

You can tune old bones by glueing the mouthpiece shut and then redrilling it.
