Yes!! There are alot of turkeys in MD.I believe the number I saw was 18,000-30,000 birds. Every county in the state now has huntable populations for the spring season.
However, one should keep in mind that only the 3 most western counties have a fall season (Washington, Garrett and Aleghaney).
Not being from that part of the state, I'm not familiar with the public lands there, or which ones hold turkeys and which ones don't. But a good place to start would be to get ahold of someone in your local NWTF chapter and ask them which public lands do and do not hold turkeys. Calling the officials at the public lands and asking them if they have turkeys is also a good place to start since they work on the land all of the time and may know of specific places in particular that hold birds on the property. Other than that, good old fashioned getting out and walking around looking for sign and birds would work.
If you aren't afraid of a drive, I can personally tell you that state properties in the western part of the state have alot of birds. Green Ridge State Forest for one. Savage for another. Indian Springs. Frederick Watershed. Monocasy. The list goes on and on.
Sure are. Not many on the western shore. A bunch in Allegany county but tough hunting them and scouting if you not from there or know the place. But I took a nice 21 pounder in Dorchester county last year. It was a farm that no one turkey hunts. You need to go to in April on the eastern shore but in May in Western MD.
