Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Af ew pics of my soggy Wisconsin Hunt

Well I am sad to say my season was over May 13th......it was a rush though even though I did not make my goal of a mature Tom from both Iowa and Wisconsin......I got close......but will not take beyond a 40 yard shot now even though the gun patterns nicely at 55 yards!

Here is a Jake I passed on who decided to try to "make it" with my full bodied breeder.

I had borrowed this decoy out and they broke the plastic peg. So I added a threaded rod to which allows me to place this firmly in the ground.

this photo The Horny jake makes his move. Puts one foot on her back and then hears the plastic thump from his toenails as if he kicked an empty gallon milk jug.

After mr Horny Jake heard that sound he turned a sorta ran away.....he was a woos......

I must add it was raining quite hard but I was comfy in my new blind.....coffee...donuts....vidoe camera...from which I took these stills from the film....

Now here is his buddy.....and he ahd a beard so small I called him Mr. Bow-tie,,,,and he looks more like a Turkey Vulture due to his feathers running clear up to the bottom of his chin......I would guess these jakes might go 15 to 17 lbs.

And here is one of the many mature Toms I saw and at least I was able to get a film of him......he by far was not the best but had he come in......another 20 steps.....I woulda wahcked him.....

but with the drop in temperature and the rotten weather - I probably should have laced some sunflower seeds or deer corn with Viagra.......the Mr. Tom Luv action was completely shut down..... >

Sorry rather fuzzy photo...it was really raining ahrd.

He is one big jake that came in the afternoon......
At first I thought it was a hen but it was way too large.....I bet this guy would go close to 20 and he had the shortest beard.....and almost a symetrical fan as he half strutted.....
But alas as he walked by at 20 yards and with my video - he had nubs for spurs......

For the other 2 days......I had film but it was more of the same.....a few good Toms at long distance.....

Ah well....there is always next year.....

Just went back through my journal and counted over 31 better than 2 year old toms I saw and recorded from scouting Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and then hunting Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.......but the majortiy of them came before we had our opener on Wednesday as I said - the weather really took an immense crap!

And I could not hunt either Sat or Sun....

sorta depressining ...hehe

I never try to cause conflict with other hunters and this isn't what I am trying to do...but if your gun patterns nicely at 55 yards...you'd have to be foolish not to think you can't kill him past 40. A good pattern is a good pattern at 5 yards or 50. Of course if you like the challenge of getting them in close then more power to you and ignore my post. But, if you're scared to shoot a bird at 55 and your gun throws at good pattern at that distance...why not drop one? Better safe than sorry I guess...Good luck next year and sorry it didn't work out for you!

Wholelottagobble.....

You are right....I have taken a few over 55 yards......it was fun.......but now if I can't call them up close and personal.......I let them go.....even at 40 yards that is pushing it for me.......I like to see the wihties of their eyes!

Just my way of hunting.....
