Finally scored today on a textbook hunt... Checked out a new farm in Connecticut today. Had some good intel on where the Toms roost and where the hens should be. I arrived just before first light. The Tom started gobbling his head off on the roost. I snuck in between the Tom and his hens. I set out a hen and a jake decoy at 20 yards, then let things quiet down for a few minutes. A couple of soft yelps and purrs later, I see a hen fly down to my right. A few more soft clucks and purrs on the Primos Power Crystal, and I catch movement on my left just where I expected him to appear. He saw the decoys and afforded me the opportunity to put down the slate and pick up my gun. Beard dragging and strutting all the way over to the decoys, his last thought probably was, why isn't this little jake hightailing it out of here..... BAM- It was all over by 5:30. He went 19 pounds, 7/8" spurs on both legs, and a 10.5" beard. Finally, after 2 seasons of tag soup, the dry spell's over.
