Default Game feeder question

I'm setting up a game feeder..spreader type at a new location with very little sign...how long should I set the spreader timer for..example...10 seconds

and how many times a day.

Thanks,
Chuck

I'd probably go with twice a day for 10-30 sec. each time. Maybe some others with more experience with feeders will chime in on this one.

Blessings.....Pastorjim

I use feeders like you are talking about. My thoughts are this. If you are going to check it once a week or so I would only set it for 5 seconds twice a day. when they find it I only run it for 8 seconds twice a day. If you get to much on the ground what you are wanting to feed may not eat it if it spoils/sours. When you show up and cleaned up then you may want to boost the timer. Save money by saving feed. lol

Yes sir...I hunted by a feeder a couple of years ago..another man's feeder..and it seems to me that the timer was set only for about 5-7 seconds..to keep from wasting the feed. and during that morning I saw..

7:00 AM about 15 reg. sized hogs..

9:00 3 turkeys

10:00 2 giant hogs.

11:00 1 big buck..

I was amazed at all the game that came for the soy beans..

This place I'm setting up is a small 8 acre patch of dense swamp land that borders a 100 acre farm and public hiking land..I've seen a few hen turkeys..and this was my first hog seen.I saw some hog wallows not far from the picture.

I ordered the Cabelas 5 gallon feeder that comes with a charger and rechargable 6 volt battery..I plan to buy a nother battery.
60.00 for the Cabelas feeder
Our local feed store sells soy beans for 19.95 for 50pounds.

Got to this thread late. Been running feeders for a long time. IMO: The reason for a feeder is to get the hogs on your clock. The morning feed is often wasted, especially if you do not hunt during the day. My feeders are set to feed at sunset or about 30 minutes before sunset. If they feed too early the birds get a lot of the corn or beans.

Hogs usually come out just before dark. Some lone boars are different, they may come to a feeder at any time.
