Default Pic & Spread Question

I have a problem judging the size of a deers antler spread. They say a deers ears are roughly 15 in wide, right?? How do you know if the ears are spread out and not pointed up? Any idea about the spread on this buck? I know they always look wider from behind, but this seems like a good view to judge its ears and spread.

I'd say he's a solid 14in. He's a nice buck, hope you see him during the season.

My guess would be a little over 15" inside spread. They do look larger when facing away... I've been fooled more than once when looking at trail cam pictures. Thanks for sharing
