Default Going to Pul Trigger on Game Cam

I am going to buy my first game cam, here shortly. What do you all recommend--awhile back I read a lot about the Scoutguards...what is the best IR camera out there for the $ ?

Thanks for the insight!

Welcome to the addiction. If you don't know what I meant by that statement, you soon will. I don't know how much money you want to spend on a camera but they range in price from about $69.00 all the way up to over $600.00. There are very good cameras in the $200.00 range such as the Scoutguard, Moultrie I-40, Bushnell Trophycam, and the Cuddeback Capture. You have to ask yourself how much you want to spend and what is the main function of the camera. If it is to simply see what is out there, then a less expensive camera may be the way to go. Some examples of those would be the Stealthcam I-590 or I-540, any of the Wildviews, or a Moultrie D-40. Any of those cameras are in the $100.00 range. If your goal is to get the best pics possible, then you may have to spend a little more. The Reconyx, which in my opinion is the best camera out there, is in the 5-$600.00 range. Just depends on your application and budget. Whatever you decide to get, just enjoy it and we will all be looking forward to your pics. Hope this helps.

Blessings.....Pastorjim

I don't need anything more than $300. I have some Cabelas cash and that nice gift card they sent out last week.

I am not restricted to buy from Cabelas though--I haven't seen the Scoutguards there. I just want a good IR camera that takes video and will get me in the game camera world--I know I will have a few, eventually.

I had done some homework a year+ ago, and now am getting the "itch" so am revisiting the game camera purchase.

Well the only cams i have that take video are my 2 scoutguards. And for 200.00 there great cams. havent had any trouble with em and i bought em from Joe at Bee Busy Outdoors. The only downside to video is if you have it set to take longer vids is that it takes up more card space as my scoutguards are a 2 gig max cam. It also depends on how long you go between checking your cam and how much activity you have in the area you have it set up in. these are all some things to think about.

Primary use as a trail cam I like the scoutguards or the bushnell trophy cam. If its primary use is a mineral site or bait/feeder the I-40 takes better pics(better IR illumination I think), the trigger is just too slow for trails.

Is the resolution good enough on the videos to make it something to really consider? If they tend to be grainy and laggy--I may just for-go the cameras with video option for one that shoots only pics

video on the sg or i-40 isn't good enough for me to judge from. I'd rather have a couple clear pics. Video is fun, but its kind of a toy. I did get a couple funny(in a sad sort of way) clips of coons chasing off deer.

The bushnell trohpycam sounds like it would be perfect for you. It's $200 and basically a scoutguard except it's got some nice improvements. Cabelas has it and i used the same gift card/coupon and cabelas cash from when i bought mine. I have the both cameras, I like the trophycam a better. the trophycam has better video options then the moultries.

I love the moultries and have 3 of them but 2 need to be fixed (one is on it's way back from repairs) but they just don't compare with the scoutguard and trophycam.
