how to resize pics to fit on here

How do you go about resizing pictures to post them on here.

I use a freeware program called IRFanView
http://www.irfanview.com/

I copy the master pic and save it somewhere else (so you keep the master in full resolution)
Open it with irfanview and then select Image > Resize
I make them 1024x 768 if I'm only going to post one pic and 800x600 if i'm posting multiples.
