I do it on both leaving a gap where they meat for feather clearence, I also leave a gap in my material for feather clearence between the shelf and site windows.

The idea is to minimize torque via the pressure points and the gaps help minimize contact which even with feathers can hamper arrow flight easily enough to make one or two arrows from a batch fly bad. Throw a broadhead on them and they are only going to fly worse!

For me it depends on the bow design--if the shelf is crowned and radiused, I leave it alone to keep the arrow as close to center as I can. If it's flat, definately put them on.

I do pretty much what LBR does. My current bow, A Savannah I got a piece of leather shelf material inder the rest, and nothing on the side plate.
