Default The Ferguson Z bow

The Ferguson Z bow

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last weekend I had the pleasure of having my booth beside Byron Ferguson and his wife at the Columbus show. We have been setting up beside each other for a few years now .
Byron And I have something in common. Good Old Howard Hill is our shared Hero when it comes to archery.
I have been shooting longbows and recurves since age 3 . and actually once got to shoot beside Howard Hill. I did not learn to shoot Compounds until about four years ago when I began experimenting with the Turbo Nock prototypes.
Anyhow Long Bows especially hand made ones still make me drool!
Byron"s Son Zack is following in his dad"s footsteps and is now making the Z bow which is I think one of Byron"s designs. This is not made by Bear as some of the modern Fergusons, but by Zack in their shop.
I got to hold one in my hand and it sent Chills through Me!!!
There is just something about a handmade bow.
I am really thinking of getting one of these!! Since my shoulder surgery three years ago I have finally worked my way back to 65 lbs with my compound, but have only been shooting my 42 lb Bear Temujin target bow. So This week I am going to get my OLD OLD fiberglass Indian off the wall, make a new string ( I have not made a bowstring in 45 years) and see If I can still handle an old stick bow.
Of course I will be test shooting my new T-4s with feathers just to see how they work. If I can handle my old bow , I think a Z might end up as something I might try for hunting.
I will probably take several months to get my old instinctive skill back to where I can take big game, but there is just something about this kind of shooting that draws me to it.
Anyhow any of you stick bow shooters should check out this.
I know there are some bows on Byrons website I think it is: www.byronferguson.com

Cool--I'm not a fan of Byron's bows, but I've talked with him and Wanda several times and they have always been great--just regular folks, always willing to talk or listen up until they had to get ready to put on a show. Great to hear his son is following in dad's footsteps too! I met one of their sons, don't remember which one it was, but at the time he was more into guitars than bows. Probably had something to do with Byron being good friends with Dickie Betts. Hope I get to talk to them again sometime--Byron used to do a local sportsman's bonanza here, but when he started doing shows for ESPN his schedule didn't allow it anymore.

Good luck getting back into archery!

I'll have to see if he wont bring one up this fall. It looks like he's coming up to hunt and the group on base is working with him to come in and "hang out" for awhile. I would say most of us are trad or some are flurting with it anyways. His cousin lives up here and works on the base I was serving on, go figure I never knew till this summer, almost 3 years after my ETS about this.
