Default Back Again

Spring is in the air (at least in MY neck o' the woods [8D]) and, after a month or so of self-imposed exile, I feel like getting out in public again.

Been spending some time making a new bow outta a red oak board, taking it slow and easy. She's about ready for the silk backing I've planned for her. It'll be the first time I've backed a bow with silk, so curiosity is getting strong. She'll be 66" long, 1 3/4" wide at the limb bases and tapering to 5/8" at the tips. Shooting for about 45 pounds at 29".

It's amazing how making wood shavings helps clear the mind and relieve stress.

Welcome back Art! Sounds like you have been having fun making sawdust--hope it works out for you! Already feeling bad that I can't make the TSLC this year.....dangit. I did get to shoot in the FL state championship last weekend (pure accident)--tough course, similar to the AL state championship (except the palmettos didn't seem to break nearly as many arrows as the saplings do in AL). It's not as challenging as the TSLC, but it is tough--real trashy, real tight shots--I loved it!

Great to have you back, and looking forward to seeing that work of "Art"! (did I just say that?[:@])

Work of Art... nyuck, nyuck

One of these days I'll get myself a digital camera so I can post pics but it's probably gonna be awhile before I get a camera. I've got a teenage son to keep fed.

Too bad you can't make it down here this year, Chad. I never have shot the longbow shoot myself. They had the bad judgement to schedule the shoot on Memorial Day weekend. My wife tends to get a bit miffed if I go shootin' instead of spending time with her on our anniversary. When it comes down to shooting arrows or preserving matrimonial harmony, the bow is left in the rack. (At least I was smart enough to not get married during hunting season!) But I do like going over there for a few hours, seeing old friends and meeting people, and roaming the vendor tables.

Palmettos... For some reason that always makes me think of some kind of appetizer instead of a plant.[&:]
