Default String nocking points

Having learned to shoot consistently enough to try to do some tuning I rasied my arrow above my current nocking point...the arrow flew much better...amazing!

So I was ready to go buy some pliers and some new brass string nocks when a friend said that the brass nocks are bad for the string and I should use serving instead...

What are your guys thoughts...serving or brass?

Also how do you get the brass nocks off the string without damaging the string?

My nock-set pliers has special "tooth" to remove or loosen the nock-set. You could probably use two small sets of pliers, but be careful. I have been trying the serving nock-set on my new string(Thanks Chad), and so far, so good. You can "screw" it up or down the string and it won't move.

I have used both, and still use both depending on how much time I have. If I'm in a rush, I'll crimp on a brass nockset. Properly installed, I've never had a problem. The Hunter Crimping Tool is the best nock pliers I've found--I got mine from Joe Stark at Lone Wolf. They have a nock removal tool built in, no chance of ruining your serving with it.

I prefer tying mine on with #2 nylon, takes just a few seconds more then crimping on a brass nock and is easier to adjust imho. The only advantage I've seen between the two is I used to get the brass nocks scratching my bow when I biked everywhere growing up. My handles looked like someone took a small chisel to them. After learning to tie them on that obviously doesnt happen.

I used the brass nock to find my best nock point, then I place a arrows under the nock then tie a piece of spiderwire fishing string under the arrow nock and remove the brass nock and tie another piece where the brass nock was.
