Default New Recurve Advice

I currently shoot a Bear Grizzley 50# recurve bow 58" long and I like the bow and it fits me well. The bow is probably about 35 years old. If I were to purchase a new bow in the same poundage what Brands and Models are the best on the market today? No compounds please; I am too old to change, I have shot friends compounds and just don't like the feel and bulkyness of them. I love recurve bows!!! Ok; tell me what you shoot and what you like about that Brand and Model bow.

I shoot a griz #45 same length and most likely born in the same decade. If you want to get a bow that is the same wait and fit you might as well shoot the one you have, I cant see a new bow out performing it by that much. If you want somthing custome look local, if not just do a search on the net and see what you come up with.

I was just concerned as to what types of bows were available that were compareable to what I shoot now. I don't really plan on getting a new bow right now but wondered what kinds of opions people had about the bows they own. My Grizzley is starting to develope some cracks in the fiberglass on the limbs but I don't think it affects the strengh or safety of the bow at all yet. I have not had anyone look at it but maybe there is some resin or something that could be put on it to stop the cracking. I would hate to lose this bow after shooting it since I was 12 years old or so. Its a part of me now. I don't do much shooting other than in the yard but I did go to a outdoor 3D shoot that ran all year long and won the trophy for that year for recurve score on the course. I had a coach in college that worked on my shooting quite a bit but just could not release the way he wanted me to. I seem to have to keep moving my fingers straight back an inch or so on release to shoot real good. I am still interested in what kind of hunting recurves you guys shoot and your comments on them. I just want to look around a little bit and try something newer out. Thanks.

This Guy is From Ishpeming Michagan. He makes some nice bows, I just ordered a long bow from him. I asked around and everyone who has ever shoot one of his bows loves them and they compare them to bows that are twice, some times three time the price.

His name is Steve
and dont look for Ishpeming on a map, it is in the UP of MI just west of Marquette.

There are lots of great bows on the market, but I couldn't say off the top of my head what would compare to your Grizzly. I know I like the old Bears a lot better than any of the new ones I've shot, and the price on the new ones has gotten out of hand IMO.

It doesn't really matter what I like, because we are all different. If at all possible, get out to some shoots (the more and the bigger, the better). You can try out lots of different bows at them, and you might even run across an old Grizzly for sale like the one you have.

Good luck,

Chad

LBR,
I just got an invite to a traditional archery club locally so I will get a chance to see some different stick bows there probably. Yeah, I looked at the new grizzley models and really don't see any improvement over the older ones. I think the Martin Mamba is probably a good candidate for me. It has reinforced limbs for fast flight string is 58" and is a nice looking bow. If it shoots smooth and quiet I would probably get one. Im only 5'8" tall so anything longer is more bow than I like in the woods. Enjoyed your post. Thanks.

I would check out the Martin Mamba, it's 58". They have a smaller grip then a Bear. Fairly smooth draw and quick at a decent price .
