Default Let's talk Feathers

I am using Easton 2117 XX75s about 29" and will more than likely be using Muzzy 100 gr broadheads for hunting. I have a Bitzenburger jig with both straight and left wing clamps(the jury is still out on which I will be using). What feather do I need ? Does the shield feather work better, or is it just Traditional looking ??

Default RE: Let's talk Feathers

As best I can tell, one feather cut works as good as another, except for the "high profile". Just my opinion, but I'm guessing that if you need a high profile feather to get good flight, you got spine problems. Parabolic (regular, or low profile) is probably the quietest cut. I shoot sheild because I like the looks. Maxi-fletch (high-profile bananna) is probably the noisiest--any of the high profile feathers are noisier than their low-profile counterparts.

With your left wing clamp, you need left wing feathers. With your straight clamp, you can fletch either left or right wing, just don't swap up on the same arrow. I suggest some offset if you use the straight clamp. Straight will work if everything else is real good, but a little helical or offset won't hurt.
