Arrow Weight

I just purchased goldtip 5575 xt traditonal full length with nock adapters, nocks, inserts, goldtip weight system, and 5inch sheild cut left helical feathers. My uncles are going to help me bare shart tune. Im deciding between 125gr tip or 140. I will be hunting only whitetail and was wondering what a good overall arrow weight would be. I pull 55 pounds at 26". I was thinking around 500gr per arrow. Does that sound about right?

I think you might have a hard time getting them to spine out for 55@26. Unless you leave them pretty long. I try to shoot an average of at least 8 grains per pound up to ten grains per pound., so 440-550 grains would be good. Just my .02 and I am sure others will chime in. You might try 35/55 shafts if you don't have any luck with the 55/75.

A 500 grain arrow will give you a hair over 9 grains per lb (9.09), which will work just fine. I like to stay with no less than 8 grains per lb--around 10 seems to be ideal. When you get it set up properly, get your arrows flying straight, and a sharp broadhead on the business end, it will go through a whitetail like a hot knife through butter (just avoid the shoulder).
