Default Arrow Weight Difference

Hello All, Well, I just got done with another set of POC 23/64 shafts 28.75" BOP fletched with 4" 4 fletch 60/120 and 160 grain point, 3 coats of Olympic 1 step satin and poly sealer. Now I was figuring these would come in pretty close to 580-590 grains being a 1/2" longer and 35 grains more weight. Well they weighed in at 530 grains.

Now the arrows that were to short for broadhead shooting were 28.25" BOP 23/64 same fletching, but with 125 grain field point and they weighed 530 grains. The raw shafts from the new batch weigh 380 grains full length. I thought this was odd. any thoughts? Maybe I just need to dump cedar and go with spruce of those Hex shafts.

One of the joys of wood arrows--they can vary a good bit in weight. Some vendors will allow you to order in a particular weight range so you can keep them close. For most hunting shots, it won't make any difference, but tournaments are a different story. I bought a digital grain scale to double-check mine--heavies for hunting, light ones for small game and tournaments.

Some outfits definitely will sort them for you.... for a price. The only way to do the job economically is to follow Chad's lead and buy a grain scale. Then you can buy shafts in hundred lots so you can sort them yourself.

As long as you're messing with natural materials, you'll get weight differences. I would suppose the hex shafts are a bit more consistent, but don't know for a fact.
