Default Best Prices?

I have been doing a lot of searching and so far the best prices I have come across are from 3 rivers on shafts feathers knocks tools exc. Has this been everyone else’s experience as well or are there places I am missing?

I'm not knocking 3R cause I have no experience w/them in recent years, but if you're talking about wood shafting, least expensive is usually not the bargain it first appears to be. There are places to scrimp, but IMO arrow shafting is definitely not one of them. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I can't speak to their shafting, but one thing I know: their service is great. My orders usually arrive in 2 days, 3 at the most.

If you want tapered cedar shafts, go to Rogue River Archery. They're pickey and I like that.

Ok time for me to sound stupid. What is the reasoning for buying a taapered cedar shaft. Why not just pick up some Port Orford Cedar in 11/32 and build some arrows?

I read that the tapered shaft will fly better because it clears the bow cleaner, but I can't say from personal experience that it actually makes that much of a difference.

I'll be going with the tapered because I have a string served for 5/16 nocks and I like the weight and use a broadhead for an 11/32 shaft. Plus, if it really does make a difference as the arrow leaves the bow, I get that as an added bonus.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Also tapered arrows recover from the oscillations caused by acher's paradox faster than parallel shafts. Thus more of the bows energy is transferred into downrange flight and the arrow is more forgiving or accurate.

I haven't dealt with 3 Rivers in a while, but they were always a little pricey compared to most other folks I traded with. I use Joe at Lone Wolf and Lee at Keep it Simple. I have to agree on the wood shafting--that is one dept. where you generally get what you pay for. After you cull out the bad ones, you usually would have been better off ordering good shafts to begin with.
