Fred,
Apparently the new owner passed away recently (?) and the company is no more. People generally have good things to say about the bighorn, old & newer. I've never shot one.

Bighorn was founded by J. Fred Asbell and went through several owners since the early 90's. They were always known as top quality bows. They had one piece and takedown recurves as well as longbows. The basic Bighorn Custom Takedown model sold for approximately $700 US. Clear glass, exotic woods, inlays and other options could raise that price well over $1,000 US.

Tuffcity is correct though. The latest owner passed away shortly after acquiring the company and it looks like Bighorn is out of business with no hope of ever coming back.

All the Bighorns I've shot have been great bows, but w/the company now defunct it'll be a 'buy at your own risk' purchase. Even tho I currently own two (an Asbell era [curved limb-bed] recurve & a later model Ramhunter longbow), I don't think I could recommend them because of this. If either one of my Bighorns were to blow up, I would have a bunch of high dollar wood scraps.

But then again, any day now the same could be said of any of the highly touted 'one man shops' that are popular these days.

Great bow, I shot a takedown model made in the early 90's with the curve bed limbs. It was quiet and quick. I think there's a former employee around on the internet, making spare limbs. I sold mine but it was to heavy for me 64"65@28. I'd buy another if I could find one 62" or 64" in the mid to upper 50# range.
