Well, it could have gone a whole lot better as far as my shooting! lol I shouldn't complain I guess--I shot a 327--put me way down the list (40-something, I think). Tom outshot me 15 or 20 points, he got 26th place (I think). 100 targets in two days don't sound like much until you try to make that long dang walk twice.
Had a great time, dang good course, met a lot of good folks, plan on going back next year!

Congrats to you and Tom both, Chad. Thats definitely not a bad finish out of 250 shooters. I havent even shot an arrow in a month or better. Hopefully I get some time soon to get at it.
Scoring was 5-2-0, horns and hoofs were a no score. I generally shoot about 80% at most tournaments, only shot about 65.5% at TX, but honestly don't know if I could have held my own if I hadn't had a sore hoof. Some dang tough competition there, and some intimidating shots--no telling how many arrows we saw floating in the creek, busted, etc. There were several shots where the backstop was the creek, one bionic armidillo shot (shape of a life-size armidillo cut out in plate steel), and a few where rocks made up most of the backstop. I lost a point, broke an arrow, and lost an arrow on the first day, plus broke another on the bionic deer they had on the practice range (should have stopped shooting at it--duhhhh....). Didn't loose or break any on the second day, in spite of several misses. Shots were very much varied--from 15-40 or so yds. Some were in an open field, some across the creek, one was a STEEP upward angle, downward angles, a few in trees on the edge of the creek, etc. It was the most variation of shots I've ever seen on a course, in angle, distance, targets, etc. Target sizes ranged from a praire dog (itty bitty) to a buffalo. Several smaller targets--a wolverine, couple of foxes, a Rhinehart frog (pretty dang big for a frog though), raccoon, bobcat, etc. Extremely challenging shoot--both in accuracy and endurance (50 targets per day, mighty long walk around the course). If you aren't a crack shot, you better have plenty of arrows. Think that even Keith Bain came in 4th this year. Some of the targets are misleading--better be up on your game on identifying different ones. I buggered up on a few that I misjudged the size of--there was one ram of some sort that wasn't nearly as big as I thought (shot over it the first time), and they had two itty-bitty whitetail doe targets that I'd never seen before--lots smaller than McKenzies--looked to be a lot further away than they really were.
Anyhow, I loved it! It was run very smoothly, two card scoring to keep everyone honest, shoot with your competition the second day, shotgun start both days. Not quite a Twin Oaks type shoot, but a very good one and one I plan on going back to.

Sounds like a heck of a shoot Chad, Tom almost got a buckle didn't he? Wonder how many points between him & 20th place? I'm gonna try & make that someday...maybe '06.
I didn't shoot the tournament, but our club had a pavilion set up there, next to the registration table. I was hanging out there when I wasn't at Chad's table or O.L. Adcocks. We were sharing our tables with Lone Star Bowhunters Assn and a custom knifemaker. He also had some quivers a friend had for sale. One plains style quiver really got my attention.
I drooled over it a bit and decided it was finally time to use the leather I'd bought, nigh on a year ago. I made my own plains quiver.
Met Chad. Met O.L. Got the inspiration to get off my butt and make a quiver. That was MY result of TSLC.
Tom got real close--he was tied for 17th or 18th place after the first day, but the second day didn't go as well. He was in 26th place this year, I believe--not a lot of points between him and a buckle. Heck, the first day he wasn't just way ahead of me in points, but a dang bunch of places ahead.
I can't complain--I haven't shot 100 practice arrows since I hurt my foot (over 16 weeks ago), other than shooting tournaments and warming up for them right before the shoot. The TSLC is definately one you need to practice for if you expect to get a buckle. Of course several of the shots I buggered should have been "gimmes", or at least reasonably easy, and managed to nail several of the harder ones--go figure.
Hope you can make it there Vic--you could take a buckle home. I might get me one next year, if I can get this dang ankle fixed and get off my dead butt and practice.
Gonna' try to shoot at Cloverdale this year--hopefully get started early one morning and git 'er done. Didn't get to fling the first arrow last year--too dang busy. Hopefully I will be able to sneak off for a bit this time.

Cool Chad, I donno about me bringing home a buckle, but it sure sounds like a fun shoot & I'd sure like to try. Man, I would've loved to have been there & shot thru w/you two, heck, we always have a blast don't we? I been wanting to make that'n someday, but it'll prolly be after the 'bou hunt. That seems to be draining me of any excess fun $$ (like I ever have any excess $$ []hehe) right now.
...thank goodness for OT at work! EeeeeWW, did I mention the ugly 4 letter word (WORK???)? Yuk!!![:@]
You gotta go at least once Vic--it's a challenge for sure! You'll have to leave 'ol #1 at home though.
Work? What is that? [:'(] I haven't been able to work for over 4 months now, no good news in sight. Going to an ankle specialist at the end of the month. Putting a serious crimp in my budget for Australia! Oh well......I'll figure it out one way or the other.
