Here's great site for the person who likes to make their own gear. The arrow taper jig is towards the bottom.

I've spent a lot of time and money trying to save time and money. Learned the hard way that I am better off just letting someone else figure it out and buy the dang thing (if it's any more complicated than a string, I just as well forget it).

Here's one that works.

Personally,I use a woodchuck power taper tool.Works great but if I could've found some plans to make my own jig,it would've saved me about $100.

5 degrees for the point and 11 1/2 degrees for the nock. When you're grinding the tapers, leave a flat on each end.: 11/64 diameter +1/32 / -0 for a full taper on the tip. OR 15/64 +1/32 / -0 for a short taper. For the nock end, the flat is 1/8" diameter +1/32 / - 1/64.

Those are the AMO specs for tapers. You might have to do some adjustments though, to get perfect fit for the specific brands of nocks and heads you use. The specs allow +/- 1/4 degree variance on the angles. Seems to be a bigger problem with nocks than with points.

The "link that works" depicts a shaft tapering jig, which is really cool. However, it does not taper knock or point ends.

Perhaps a similar jig for knocks and points could be made though.

Norby,

Go to the wes wallace bow page http://www.weswallacebows.com/

Then to accesories, then to the other link

http://www.weswallacebows.com/index.....main&cat_id=3

On this page you'll find the tim's tapering jig, and point and nock tapering jig. The point and nock jig is 50 bucks and attachs to a small disc sander, the shaft tapering jig can be mounted on a table saw, OR a belt sander also.

I have both, havent used the shaft tapering jig yet as I've made up one simplier that does ok if ya can stand the headaches lol. The nock and point jig works fine. My recommendations what ever you do get a angle gauge to check your angles. Costs is about 5 bucks (alaska prices). a board with a v groove set up to a disc sander, applied at the right angle to the disc would work great. You'll have to grind some of the leading corner off the block. Once its set, clamp it down and go. You'll need a stop, a simple block would work fine here also. Clamp it down where you want it. Nothing fancy but it would be effective.
