Default This Ain't Supposed To Happen Is It??

Every bow I've owned before had one thing in common: the closer to the highest recommended brace height the slower albeit quieter the bow shot. Lowering fistmele always resulted in a smoother draw & faster arrows, but louder (many times LOTS louder) shooting. Up till now that is. I've already shot my Morrison Dakota enough to realize that this sexy lil rocket breaks almost ALL the rules, but I've found yet another one. When I got it I quickly got it shooting good, and was very impressed w/the smoothness of draw, the cast of an arrow from it & it's stable feel. Ain't no 60" "longbow" supposed to feel/shoot like that @ 30" draw! As I prefer a quiet shooting bow I had automatically started out near the max specs for brace. Well this evening I decided to try lowering the brace height to see just how fast it'd shoot, and to my great surprise the more I lowered it the quieter it shot! I wound up w/it at the lowest recommended setting, & it draws smoother, shoots faster, and to my great astonishment is even noticeably quieter!! This ain't supposed to happen is it?? Wow, this is some lil bow Morrison is building, it really does break all the rules! Simply amazing!!

I heard Mr. Morrison's shop put out a great bow. It is a real sweet looker, Is it as accurate for you as ol #1?

It's a very accurate bow Mike. Much lighter in physical weight than Ole#1, so maybe not quite as stable in the hand, but certainly not critical either. No bow has been overly accurate for me lately as I seem to be in somewhat of a slump (collapsing) but I'll work thru that. Anyhow, reading back over my post just now it sounds like another "bragging about my new bow" thread, and I must apologize for that. I really meant the crux of it to be a question concerning brace height. I've just never had a bow to shoot quieter at lower brace, & I'm puzzled by it. Has anyone else?

Heck Vic, brag on man. If you want and it'll make ya feel better, I'll post a pic of the last group I shot with the Crusader before I started shootin the postal targets.

Actually, I've never seen a bow get quieter when lowering the brace like that. I know what you mean about the weight making the bow seem unstable. I felt the CM was a little unstable at first but soon got used to it. I added some weight with the selway quiver and raised the brace from 6 1/2 to a tad over 7 and I'm liken it a lot.

Hey, yous guys gotta stop talkin me inta new bowz. The wifes gonna kill me if I order another one.

I ordered a super shrew at 60 inches to accomodate my 30" draw. My hope is that it will be much the same. I think they're trying to take the "long" out of longbows!

Vic,

I'm a bit short on experience, but do keep my ears and eyes open and pickup on the experience of others. A given bow is going to be quickest with the smallest possible braceheight. Also, that bow will be quietest at the optimal braceheight for a particular shooter/his form/arrow combination. In this case, I think the optimal for speed and quietness for you, your form and the arrows you are using is the minimum recommended braceheight.

How ya doin' on the postal match shoot. Two of mine have been very profitable, one I blew all together, although I did land on the page!

Bill

All true Bill, but most seem quietest at higher range of brace...at least thats been my experience till now.
