Default Got a new gun.....

.....a Spud gun! I made one today and it rules, even though it isn't traditional. I was launching some roled up paper to test it out before I put some taters through it. Whuuuump....and the paper goes everywhere. I am a happy lad. mY recurve is still more fun, but I think I am going to like this spud gun.

It was easy.....it took like 15 minutes. My mom doesn't like it. She hates everything.

I saw a guy shooting one of those at the "Maid of Chicago" cruise ship on Lake Michigan a few years ago. We were smelt fishing and the ship got to within a 150 yards of the shore. When they came back though, the were out about 500 yards! Gonna hunt griz with that thing?Dick

Ohh, I bought one of those a couple weeks ago....didn't I tell ya chessbum? Just kidding.
JRW....type "spud gun" into a search engine and you will get a multitude of sites. Many different designs. I made mine with with an foot of 3"PVC for the chamber, and 3 foot of 2" for the barrel. Get a reducer thingy to connect them, and a plug for the back of the chamber that has a screw of cap (cleanout plug, I think). Purple prime it, them glue em together with PVC glue. I use a replacement grill lighter to ignite it.

We used to take metal pop cans cut the top and bottom out(5 or6 cans if I remember right)the last can you only cut out the top out. Then ya duct tape all the cans together to form a barrel with the last can in line still having the bottom in.then poke a 1/4" hole in that last can on the side down close to the bottom get yourself some lighter fluid and put a good squirt into that hole, slip a tennis ball down the barrel, point the thing where you want to shoot and touch a cig lighter to the hole--and KER-BOOM.If I told you how far that thing would shoot a tennis ball you'd call me a liar-funniest damn thing you ever saw. Please don't tell your mother or wife that you heard it from me!
