Default Getting my better half started

I have been working on getting my three boys into Traditional archery, I got each one of them a Long Bow 1/2 dzn arrows glove and arm guard for Christmas. Now that it has warmed up a bit(above 30) I have had them out every afternoon for 15-20 minutes to shoot and they are loving it. I am working on building them all another dzn arrow each and having them help with picking dye colors and creasting colors. my wife is seeing how much fun we are having and told me that she would like to learn to shoot.

I acn shoot and for the most part the boys can shoot but I have no idea how to teach her how to shoot. Can anybody recomend a book or video that could help with this? Also I am in need of a bow for her. Something light and cheap. And I know that you are never suppose to buy your wife something cheap but I want to see if this is something that she will enjoy before I sink a bunch of money into it.

Looking for something 25-30lbs at 24-25 inch.

Thanks for any help that you can offer.

Default RE: Getting my better half started

check the www.women-outdoors.com/traditional classifieds. You might find something on the hunting.net classifieds also but with over 800 recurves alone on the first site, I think you'll have better odds there.

I took my wife to my old stomping grounds. She was thinking about starting, she ended up picking out a bow, release, arrows, rest, site, and quiver on the spot. It was a compound, a lil xi prodigy. But hey she's atleast started in the right direction.

Later on I picked up a timberspirit one piece recurve for her. Man its a beauty. She's shot it less times then I have fingers on one hand!

As much as she wants to be a part of it, she doesnt honestly. I think she did it to make me happy. I do believe she enjoyed it and got pretty dang good with the compound. Took the ibep class and passed it first time go, a lot more then I can say for most of the other folks who take it. (almost a 50% failure rate for first timers). Its a shame I dont push her as hard as I do some guys but I've realized with some old girlfriends either they are going to or they aint. Its the guys who dabble in it that can get me going. They ask for this and that, help here and help there, and then not touch a bow for 6 months at a time. I should know better [>:]

At that kind of weight, it wouldnt be to hard to make one! Get the boys involved and all, it could be a blast. Ya have a few months coming up till the big day (mothers day may 9th) It should be enough time to secure what little materials you'll need and have it finished. Say an all hickory or hickory back hickory, or hickory backed cedar! It has some great potential and some huge browny points all the way around
