Aluminum arrow weight increas

In the last thread I started I asked about wood arrows. Now if I decide to stay with aluminum, how do you increase the arrow weight besides increasing the weight of the head??

I shoot 2016s cut to 28" with a 125 gr head but this puts my arrow weight a little low. I would like to get closer to 10 gr per pound.

I've heard of using some sort of plastic tube inserted into the shaft, but I'm really clueless on that. The 2016 @ 28" weighs 296 gr. + 160 gr. head would be 456 gr. That's about 9 gr. per lb. I bet that 2016 cut to 28" length has a spine rating of around 55-60# (wood equiv), sorry that's all I know. With adding 35 gr. to the head should be around 50-55# spine. Sounds about right for that 52# Crusader. But of course these are only guesses. I think there are some type of adapters that add weight without having to pitch your 125 heads. If they're screw-in broadheads, 3Rivers Archery has these washers but they're only 5 gr. each.

You can use broadhead adapters that weigh from 40 to 125 grains and use a glue on head.Most trad. suppliers carry them.

You can use the weight tubes-some are 2gr/in and 3gr/in.I also read an article in TBM about stuffing the shaft with styrofoam-this quiets the shaft and also gives it weight.

One thing you want to remember is that as you add weight to the broadhead end of an arrow you make the spine "softer". Usually if you want to increase your arrow weight you go to a thicker walled arrow and try "not" to change the diameter. I would try a 2018 just to see if it flies better.

My 2016s fly great, I just want to increase their weight without increasing the head weight. I have a set of 2018s, but they're just a little too stiff. I may just go ahead with cedar arrows.
