Here is a pic of the neck bone that I hit on the 6pt last week. I gotta say, the Magnus held up very well. I cant tell if it is bent at all, it looks very straight. What do you think? Would a 3 blade broadhead have stopped short of doing its job? Would a 3 blade have just shattered the bone?
That picture kind of reminds me of a magnus II I shot at a sharp angle on a small seven pointer many years ago. It was a steep angle and the arrow hit the deer at the proper entry point for a chest shot. The arrow snapped to a halt as it hit the backbone and the deer ran off wiith the arrow looking like a flagpole.
Eleven days later I was shotgun hunting on Thanksgiving day at a farm about a half mile away. I saw fresh deer tracks in the snow going into a particular strip of standing corn. So the slowly stillhunted the field knowing a deer was in it. Buck or doe didn' t matter. Just in front of me jumps up a buck and takes off straight away and uphill. I pulled up the gun and dropped it in its tracks. Upon butchering the deer my knife hit metal as I skinned it. Here was my broadhead embedded in the backbone only the blades were perfectly parallel to the spinal column in the column canal. The arrow had screwed itself off the insert.
I saved the piece of backbone for a while, then I wanted to use the head again, so I chopped it out. It was as good as new. But I later wished I would have just saved it.
