Default Got parts-build my bow-UPDATE

Guys

My parts finally got here - I am getting ready o build my own R/D bow....its a nice Hybrid design by Dale Staul...... I am building it with clear glass lams, bamboo cores, and most of the limb laminates are face grain - just absolutely BEAUTIFUL wood...... I cant wait to get started. I drew up my bow form per Dales drawings to cut out on my CNC router...... gotta build a hot box also.....

Anyway - Ill keep you guys posted, I am real excited about building my own bow. After all the years of wood projects (mainly boats) this is something I always wanted to do. It will be the way I want - My first stick bow in 20 years, and one I made myself...... and the best thing is that my interest in Archery will take a whole new swing. Shooting my compound is great- I love it.... But driving bullseyes at 40 yards all day starts to get a little boring for me anymore - I still love to hunt with it because of the confidence I have in my ability....but being a true to heart instinctive shooter that converted to sights etc...this will be a very welcome turn around back to my roots

CNC router?? Where' s the challenge? To be truly trad, you have to use a coping saw and wood rasp to make the form. [&:][>:]

Good luck on your project. If you do like I did, you' ll find about 15 improvements to make on the next one, before you ever shoot the first arrow out if this' n.

Shooting a bow you made yourself, and taking game with it, is something special.

Keep us posted 8. I am still going to try to build one this winter, so maybe I can learn from your mistakes/improvements. Make sure you post us some pics when you get her done.

Arthu

Well my lack of owning a bandsaw... I am opting to use my CNC - I designed the CNC Router myself and built it Arthur - does that get me any closer ?

I am sure Ill find improvements ! Ill be happy so long as the bow shoots straight. The one thing I have not done is shot off the shelf except when I was a kid with a 25# recurve...... and thats been a little while

If I had the money and could get the machine time, do a little CAD work, slap a slab of 7075 aluminum on a CNC mill and Poosh Da Button! ... and to heck with hand tools!

I got my form drawing finished and decided to see just how good my new CNC Router would cut it so I went for it.....

Guys - It was impressive. From drawing to form in 4 hours... I still have not glued it yet - but its ready to gle - and perfectly square (checked it with ground machinists square) and it looks great - below is a pic of it on my router table after I cut it and started cleaning the edges up..... I am really getting into this.... gonna be great making my own bow

WOW!! That looks like a heckuva deep deflex! Gonna make a cool lookin' bow and I bet it' ll shoot fireballs.

What length and weight are you gunning for? What color glass? What lams and riser woods? Come on and spill the beans!

Arthur

I am building it 58" . I am making it 55 lb draw at my 28.5" draw. I am using Bocote for the riser and limb veneers, with clear glass, and bamboo core. The enclosed pic is what I am aiming for. I like the all wood natural look.....

The laminates I have are just beautiful....... I cant wait to glue it up in a couple week when I get my hot box built......
