Default Bucks Gettin Ready

How' s the deer sign out there? I found a mess of fresh rubs Aug. 31st! Since I' ve been hunting (1967) I was always under the impression that the small buck lost their velvet first since the first trees I saw with rubs were usually small. However I got to watch this 125" class typical and just plain HAWG N.T. actually make these rubs and the trees are less than 1/2" diameter. I realize that once the rut approaches the rubs will probably increase in size but it goes to show that you can' t go 100% on rub size alone for judging the size of your buck. ( I just hope the other hunters in the area think these are rubs from toy buck! )

I remember reading an article in Bowhunter magazine a while back that went something like, " Big bucks will rub small trees, but small bucks won' t rub big trees." I' m too green to know the difference though.
