Default Why is it?

Why do I shoot better at 20 yards than I do at 15? I have been shooting at 15 yards for almost 2 weeks now, and shooting fairly well. I still get an occasional whoops. Today I backed up to 20 yards, and dropped EVERY stinkin' arrow into the bullseye. Am I concentratiing more at the 20 yard mark, or is there something going on that I' m not aware of? One thing I do notice, the arrows that I have in the 55-60 spine range hit waaaaaay high, but the 65-70 spine arrows shoot perfect.

You' re probly concentrating more. Try really focusing at 15yd and you' ll probly tigthen it up.

Concentration is probably it. There' s been a lot of days when I shot better at 40 than I did at 20, just because I concentrate more on the longer yardages.

Even though the dot is the same size, it looks smaller at 20 yards than it does at 15. The smaller size focuses your concentration more. Get a package of those small orange sticky dots and put one in the center of your bullseye. That should get you settled in at 15. The smaller you aim the smaller you miss (hopefully ).

Could also be your natural aiming point. I think each of us has a " natural aiming point" at which we more naturally point and shoot the arrow. I know in my case it' s 45yrds. My scores at that distance are disproportionately higher than they are at any other distance. Back me up to 30-35yrds and I disintegrate. But move me out to 45yrds, and I can drill them almost without thinking. It' s pretty helpful when shooting NFAA field/hunter rounds, because they' re centered around 47rds. But for 3D it stinks, because the longest shot in my class is 25yrds.

Another possibility is that like many people, you' re changing the elevation of the bow with your arm rather than with your waist. This will tend to change your draw length and it might be that at 15 yards you might actually be underextending the bow arm just a little bit.
