Feather Dye

I've had a package of Great Northern feather dye in my shop for at least a couple of years--one of those projects I just couldn't make time for.

Well, today I did, and I have to say I'm impressed with the results. The bright yellow really is a bright yellow--I think I'll be able to find my wild turkey fletchings now if (when) I miss.

If I have time, I'll tinker with a kool-aid dye recipie tomorrow.

Will it dye dark brown primary feathers from wings? I thought it only worked for white feathers.

It dyes the white part of the primaries. I wasn't impressed with the Kool Aid, but I think I tried to dye too many feathers with too small a batch.

Seems that GN has quit selling the stuff? I found a fly-tying place with the same type dyes though--I plan to order soon.
