Default Another Newbie Question

I have another question guys. As stated earlier I just bought a 62in 40# @28 Bear Tigercat. I went to a bow shop and had them put at 58 inch string on it. I' m not sure what the specs are for string, only that it is 58inches and not necessarily a recurve/longbow string(not sure if that matters). Anyway, my brace height measured from the center of the grip is 11 inches and from the riser its about 10 1/2. Do these numbers sound right?

By the way, will I ever be able to shoot this thing accurately enough to hunt with? I suddenly have a new respect for traditional shooters, it' s very hard.

Oh yeah, another question.... I know longbow shooters tend to cant the bow to the right, is this something I should be doing with a recurve as well, or should I shoot it more like a compound? It just feels better to me to cant it to the right..

I got out my Bear catalog CD and looked up your Tigercat. Seems it was only made in 1965-66. It sold between $33-38 new. The catalog doesn' t give a brace height but I' m pretty sure it should brace between 7 1/2 - 8 1/2" .

I cant my recurves just like my longbows. Compounds too when I' m shooting them instinctive.

I TO CANT MY RERCURVE AND IF I SHOOT A COMPOUND AS WELL.
MEASURE THE STRING IS IT ACTUALLY 58" . IF I REMEMBER THIS CORRECTLY IF IT WAS MARKED AMO 58 THEN I THINK IT WOULD BE 54" . WHEN I ORDER STRINGS FROM THE BOW MAKER I ORDER 60 OR 64 DEPENDING ON THE BOW AND THEY ARE GENERALLY 4" SHORTER.
THAT BRACE HT. SOUNDS WAY TOO LONG.

Ak is right, that brace height is way too high. If the bow is AMO 58" you' d want a string that' s either three or four inches longer/shorter. I forget the way that goes, someone else will have to clarify it. If you get it set up well and practice with it you' ll be able to hunt with it. It takes time, especially if you don' t have any prior archery experience, but when it comes together it feels great. If canting the bow helps you shoot it accurately, then cant the bow. There are basic guidelines to good form, but you have to develop your own shootin style. Go with what works and puts the arrow where it needs to be.

Thanks guys, I measured the actual length of the string, and you were right, it measured 54 inches. Looks like I need a AMO 62 inch string. Thanks.
