Buck Boy,

Where do we start? When you say the string is loose and flimsy, do you mean when it is unstrung. I hope that is what you mean, or you definitely have a string that does not match your bow!

I would say lets answer that question first and then we will have a starting point. My first suggestion without knowing the answer is find a good proshop! They can string it for you properly and then you will know what it should look like.

Did your stringer come with directions on how to use it?

First thing is to look at the writing on the bow. Or, the writing that should be on the bow. The string should be about 4" shorter than the amo length.

Second, if the string is loose while on the bow, are you stringing it properly. Here is a picture of a recurve properly strung. Many newcomers to the trad bows will string the bow backwards. Note how the tips of the bow curve away from the string and the shooter and that the string follows the limb curve on the belly or shooter side of the bow. Most recurves have a string groove near the limb tips for the string to fall into when not being drawn. If you have it strung properly, the string is too long for the bow. Always use a bow stringer when stringing a recurve, it will save from splitting the nocks of the bow or twisting a limb.
