Default string roll on release

I am posting this for a friend who is having trouble with his release - He is telling me that upon release the string is rolling off his fingers and torqing his arrow to the left - is there any way to avoid this string roll? He is shooting split finger - with a flemish string - I don' t seem to have this problem shooting 3 under and don' t know what to tell his to help fix his problem - ANy help out there -

On another note - I did finally break down and order a Checkmate Hunter I - 63@ 27" - can' t wait for it to get here - Hopefully it will be here before Deer season -

Thanks guys
Mike

Sounds like he' s anticipating the shot and tensing up his hand before the release. On the release itself, the string would be rolling off the fingertips, which would force the arrow into the strike plate instead of off the shelf. Tell him to chill out and RELAX, for pete' s sake!

Also, have him check and make sure his nocks aren' t too tight on the string.

I agree with Arthur-it sounds like he' s putting a death-hook on the string before releasing-possibly bending his wrist on release.Good advice about telling him to relax.

I was having a similar problem when I switched to the longbow. I used to draw with the strring on the pads of my fingertips, but a deep hook into the first knuckle seems to have cured it.
The back of my hand is more rigid which allows the fingers to relax...and also doesn' t put as much of a load on my elbow tendons. Easier to draw too.

Deep hook is most likely the best solution. Although it may seem that a fingertip draw/release would be more accurate because there' s less finger to move out of the way, surprisingly, it usually is not. There are some great shooters with a fingertip grip and it' s not poor form - it' s just not the only method and not, necessarily the best method for any given individual.

Good back tension, a solid anchor, a deep hook and a great follow through can do wonders for shooting. With a deep hook, it is pretty simple to get a clean release because it tends to force the hand staight as TP mentioned above. It also allows the string to flip the fingers out of the way instead of the shooter doing it.
