I saw the postal truck roll up a little after 10am and sure enough the little guy in blue was sporting an elongated box with my name on it !
As was suspected, the " zebra" /yew Crusader is actually Shedua/Yew. It looks very nice. Its missing some curves at the end of the limbs but that seems to make for a very silent shooting bow.
I took the opportunity at lunch to head up to the range and quickly braced my new companion to a height of about 7 5/8" . Nock is about 3/8 above perpendicular. Check. Draw and.....FIRE! Whoa this feels different! Sounds different too...I likey. The arrows were hitting with authority. The 2018' s I mentioned in another thread worked.....mmmmOK. I grabbed a few 1916' s and was pleased with the tight (for me) group of fletching staring back at me...off the mark, but a group just as well. These little pencil neck arrows were flying pretty true out of a bow that had no tuning at all. Cool...very cool.
I really like the silent nature of this bow but it is sending some minor shockwaves into my elbow and shoulder. Hopefully replacing the FF string with a custom LBR made Dyna flemish and a little brace height fiddling will erase some of that.....it is minor anyway. Also, I don' t care for the soft leather sideplate and rest. It seems to grab at the aluminum arrows. The shelf has a nice radius so I' m wondering why there is a spacer mounted under the rest. Seems unnecessary to me....maybe not. I like the bear hair rest with a cutout for the fletching in the corner of the shelf, but I' m going to try seal skin first.
Should be a fun weekend of tuning. I' ll try and get some pictures up on my hunting pictures page soon.
Should be some loooooong lunches next week.
