Default Thunderstick

I'm new to the traditional bows. I'm a compound (bow with training wheels) but some buddies shoot them at the shop and I'm getting hooked. I could buy a long bow made by Thunderstick out of Charlotte, MI. It has zebra wood, looks really nice and shoots with very little hand shock compared to the widows they shoot. He would like 450.00 for it...just wondered what you guys think of Thunderstick?

Thanks, I just need to hear what others had to say. I have to sell one of my shotguns to get it now but I'm flat out hooked on archery.

I own a Thunderstick longbow. It is hands down one of the finest longbows I've ever shot...and I've shot a lot of them.

Sorry, but I am a little against the norm on this one. I owned an MOAB. I didn't care for it much to begin with, had it custom made. I ordered a 62" and Jim made a 60". After about a year, it developed a crack in the riser. Don't get me wrong, Jim, is an excellent guy and stands behind his bows. But the combo of things would kind of keep me away anyway. I must add though in each case, Jim offered to make a complete new bow. I had him fix the crack and reinforce the handle with fiberglass. I ened up trading the bow for a Great Plains 3 piece recurve straight up. I'm still very happy with the trade.

Ouch, that's not something I wanted to hear but I heard the same thing from another guy who had 2 risers crack on him.....I really liked the bow but I'm not a fan of having anything blow up on me. Is this a problem with longbows in general or is this a Thunderstick problem. I'm also considering entering into a recurve. I kind of debate recure or longbow but which maker is going to work out and not cost 1000.00? I've heard a little about Caribow??? But they are right up their with Widow.

I feel like I was 1 in 100 to tell you the truth, everyone that I have ever talked to loves their Thundersticks. The crack that developed ran parallel with the limbs and was right in the corner where the rest meets the side plate, it ran down into the handle (very hard to detect or see). The riser was one piece of Bocote. I think that if therewas a flare, multiple pieces of wood, or a laminate riser (that would be best), it would have held.
