Default Compound/Tradition bow questions.

I have been desiring to get into traditional archery for a long time. I sorta got caught up with the compounds.

I would like to get one and I had a few questions...

Lets say you have a 50 pound compound and a 50 pound recurve.Would it take the same energy to pull back each one.
I have a 50 pound diamond bow and I was looking at recurves within the 40-50 poundrange, would I be able to pull back a recurve to do you think?

What are you suggestions for a good recurve within the $150-$300 range?

What are the basics I need to start traditional archery? Finger releases? Wrist Gaurd?...

This topic involves both bows so I decided to post it in both forums to get most answers from more people.

If you are shooting a 50lb compound, a recurve or longbow will take more to hold. a compound will break, and you will hold at anchor 60 to 80% less than what you had to draw it with. A recurve of longbow, you will have to hold the whole weight until you release.

Let me put it this way. I shot 70lb compounds for 15 years, and I started with 50lbs longbow, and thought it was a tad heavy to start out with. You are excercising totally different muscles over an entirely different draw wieght curve.

Here's the funny part. Once you get used to shooting trad bows, compounds kinda hurt your shoulders quarter way thru draw cycle.

Well from 70 to 50.... I might have to go a bit lower to start out with.
Whats the main differance in pulling back a trad bow compared to a compound? Like with proper form...

Finding your groove with form is the toughest part I found. There is a dozen different ways to do it and a way that feels good tomorrow might not be best next year because you worked up muscles over that year.

I went from shooting a compound (finger release and instinctive) to recurve this past year. I shot an old (80's) Browning with 10% let off. I dropped to a 55# recurve and found it very easy to shoot, I have ordered a second set of limbs to bring it up to 65#. Like others have said, you will build strength as you use the bow. All you need is arrows and some sort of finger protection, either glove or tab. i went with tab.

I switched from compound to longbow .I was given the Hit them like Howard book and the method he shows on how to draw the bow helps out with the transfer of the weight and you achieve form, and you will learn that you can get on target and pic your point and release without much strain.
