Brass crimp on? Tied on with serving thread?

Also, what method do you use for figuring out the best place for the nock set on the string before crimping/tying one on? I've read that some have used masking tape, but not quite sure how this is done. Any help is appreciated

I have always used brass. Ive never tried anything else. I guess I go with the notion; if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I alway bare shaft test mine and adjust. I put a small dab of liquid paper on my string as a reference point and adjust. Once I get them flying right, I crimp on a brass nock. Ive also used a piece of Dacron 50 and tied it on as a reference point, until I get the arrows shooting the way I want, then crimp on a nock.

I used brass nocksets for years and had them eat up many gloves and tabs. About 20 years ago I started tying my nocksets instead. Saved mucho dinero not having to buy a new glove every few months.

I have tried serving, wax'd string, dental floss, and have finally found soemthing that works well. Jim Pic on here suggested fast flight string.

So I have a bunch of old worn out well waxed strings. I use them now, and they don't move at all. I also have tried several knots, from a semi-serving knot, and overhand knots. I find the overhand knots back to front hold best with this old fast flight string.

What can I say, jim is the man, even though he sold the silvertip without waiting for me.

I've used brass nock sets and tied-on ones as well. I really can't tell the difference, and it just depends on my mood as to which one I use.

I haven't figured out why some folks get their gloves ate up with brass ones--I've used everything from super thin and soft Damascus to cordovan leather Bateman gloves, and bunches of other different ones in-between--never had that problem.

The nock pliers I use have a nock remover on them--makes taking a nock off quick and easy, and no damage to the serving. I've also wrapped a narrow strip of masking tape round and round the string as a temp. nock set when tuning.

One bow has a tie on, the other a brass nock. I will probably swap out for a tie on to that one as well.
