Default Going on a bear hunt!

Well as the first big game animal I took with my compound bow was a bear, actually my first 2 animals, I decided to go on a bear hunt with my longbow this fall. I' ve never hunted with a longbow. Been talking to a guide in Maine for 3 years, finally broke down this weekend and booked a hunt for the last week of August. I' ve not booked in Maine before as I was spoiled in Saskatchewan with the huge bears I took. I decided not to be greedy and attempt to get an animal under my belt with traditional to build my confidence. The other nice thing is it' s only about a 5 hour drive from the house and alot less expensive. Now the next big question is what bow will I shoot the best come August, my 64" Crusader or 62" Selway II Lil Shooter????? I guess that will be a topic for August.

You lucky dawg. Good deal on booking the bear hunt. I hope you shoot a big old Maine bruin.

You better be using the Crusader, or you will be considered a traitor forever, right Chad?

Cool! I' ve been considering a Canadian bear hunt myself, but I still want a moose first. I think it is an easy choice on which bow to use--do you want a Crusader on your side, or a Lil' Shooter???? Seriously though, use the one you are most confident with--either will do the job just fine, as long as you do your part.

Never thought of it that way. Talked to some guides at the Big E Sportsman show this weekend about moose hunts in Quebec. They wanted $4500. Getting a Maine permit is a lottery. About 20,000 entries for 2800 permits. A friend of mine has applied for 13 years and nothing. I' d go with you in heartbeat if I could find a reasonable hunt. Where did you go again?

Canada, more specifically Northern Ontario We had an awesome hunt, even though we didn' t get a shot at a moose. Very obvious the animals were there (along with bear and wolf), we just had some bad luck, mostly the weather (turned off HOT). It was unguided, but a dang heap cheaper than a guided hunt. The catch is you have to provide your own transportation, and if you get one you have to get it out and process it (or haul to town to the butcher). The camp owner was very helpful in pointing us to the good spots, and Kip and friends were absolutely great in helping us all out. I plan on going back, hopefully in 2004.

Man that sounds like a plan. If you' re in need of another hunter, count me in. I bet you and I are big enough to pull my moose out[>:]. Probably could drive from here!

Actually, my plan was (if we got one) to eat about 1/2 of it where it dropped--would make packing it out a lot easier!
